About Team Sharkbait
About Team Sharkbait
It was July 2004 when the company Shark.nu setup Team Sharkbait. The idea behind the team was to promote freediving, but now has already expanded and is part of the complete Sharkbait division. At the moment one freediving athlete is part of Sharkbait, which is Sanne Buurma, he's being coached by SPC coach Jorg Jansen.
Goal
The goal for Team Sharkbait is to get the best results from the athlete with the use of the SPC philosophy, training schedules and all other tools available by the performance center. The athlete is working clearly towards set goals which are set together with the coach. By regular interaction between athlete and coach, the training and all other factors are correctly applied to the needs for the athlete. So best results can be brought to the surface, literally! An other function of the team is to test new techniques, to participate in medical studies, and all other kind of experiments that scare normal people to death, but is normal work for team Sharkbait.
Background
As Team Sharkbait is a competition team it will participate in competitions extensively. Shark.nu makes sure that team members have a certain level, for example: team members have followed courses to become freediving instructor, are medically trained, etc.
Activities and Training
Besides participating in competitions and events, the training part is ofcourse one of the most important activities of the team. There are at least 2 team training sessions a week, where athlete and coach train together. During these training sessions the athlete is training mostly stuff that can’t be trained by themselves, i.e. new techniques. But of course we are also coming together to create team spirit, which is very very important in our team! Besides the general training, the athlete himself can train with his custom made training and nutrition plans, which are evaluated every week.
Another important factor is the feedback from the athlete to the coach. The results will be passed to the coach and will be carefully analyzed and compared with the goals that are set. It's done in a way that schedules can be changed and adjusted when necessary. By using this method the athlete can expect maximum result from his efforts and energy put in the training.
