Twilight freediving

Thursday, September 21st, 2006

twilight_freediving.jpgAs the sun was beaming down the whole day, the clear sky and good weather took us to another Panheel training. But this time a bit different then other training dives. As the season is changing, the time darkness falls is earlier with the day. As dusk was falling, we took a dive in Panheel.

Although the sun was set…I was pretty amazed to see what a good visibility still remained underneath the water surface. But as the real darkness had fallen the flashlights did their job.

As freediving in water doesn’t change…the darkness does add a total different feel to the dive. A great experience and a good training on the mental part aswell.

At the end of the dive, scuba divers entered the water, with some bigger flashlights, then we had… I never thought that flashlights could still reach such a distance. Whilst swimming back, we took a few dives along side the scubadivers. Although I doubt if they were aware of our presence.

Site update: Information & Forums

Monday, September 11th, 2006

We haven’t only been training in the past month, I also have been very busy making the site-graphics look and feel the same. Our news section theme has been skinned and our new forum, which is open as of today, is also skinned like the rest of the site. Some useful hours spent well on graphics in my opinion.

I’ll put up a list of updates to the site, so you can find your way easily to the new parts.

Freediving information Update: What is freediving !?
What_is_freediving_2.gifThroughout the site you’ll find numerous terms that are commonly used in the freediving sport, but for people who get their first interest in the sport these terms are unclear. So I wrote an article about freediving, what it is and what the competitive disciplines are. Enjoy the article and don’t hold back on any questions it may come to your mind.

Information Communications update
As of today Sharkbait Forums is open to public, the brand new forum can be found here. Furthermore, I put up a feedback form for more direct contact with us here.

Some other updates are: Locations, Picture gallery (The flash one we used to have…) and some new video’s.

Getting the hang of equalising

Saturday, September 2nd, 2006

20060902_panheel_04.jpgSince I started freediving I was never any good at equalising, 5m of depth would feel like a truck colliding with my eardrum. I’ve had a few problems with my ears in the past, but this has changed for me. Although I’ve reached the depth of -42m in Egypt, diving in the Netherlands proves to be totally different. Not only on the visibility, but also on the equalisation part. Todays training showed that I am up for depths in dutch waters aswell.

The dive after recovering from my cracked back tooth already looked very promising, but today I showed 2 easy 30m+ dives, which were on the training shedule. So we conclude this session with a good feeling for future dives.
