Upcoming competitions, June 2006

Wednesday, May 31st, 2006

Performing in competitions is a reflection of the training and preparation in the preceeding weeks. As the final week for Dordtdive competition is due and the Huy competition the week after that. Team Sharkbait focussed on these 2 competitions for the past weeks as a benchmark for the future.

Dordtdive (NL), Sunday June 4th
Dordtdive is running since 2003 and has been a leading event in the Netherlands. Dordtdive 2006 is a competition in Static Apnea (STA) and Dynamic Apnea (DYN/DNF). It’s also an AIDA National with Guests competiton with AIDA Ranking Status.

Huy (BE), Sunday june 11th
The competition in Huy is also a returning event, but it’s the first time Sharkbait attends this competition. The pool competition in Huy is also in Static Apnea (STA) and Dynamic Apnea (DYN/DNF). The competition is an AIDA National with Guests competiton with AIDA Ranking Status.

I’ll update my story on both events after their completed, stay tuned…

Friday training Session

Friday, May 26th, 2006

sanne_buurma_dnf_training.jpgOur weekly friday session dynamic without fins (DNF) is challenging me to the limits, both mentally and physically. For the past few weeks I had been training in a 20 meter pool and now when switching to a 50 meter pool is a bit of a mental game. Although in the 20m pool you make more turns, it’s mentally a different game then swimming a 50m pool.

The 50m pool offers a more continuous stroke-rythem then the 20m pool, but also more time to start thinking. But switching these conditions is a good test for my mind. I have to focus on the thing I’m doing and not why !

check out the video from the friday training session and see that my technique needs some attention. Later I will post a movie of my progress in technique. I get a lot of tips from my coach and I have to improve them. Improving can be time-consuming, but is very useful in the end.

The first 3 news items featured on this section will be shown on the Main-site with the news from team Sharkbait.

Summer Time !!

NotisSanneBeach.jpg..or at least finally some good weather! It’s May again, so that means the start of our deep diving season. I’m very excited about this particular season. This friday we have another team meeting to discuss our goals and training regime for the next 6 months. We had a very good winter season that lay a broad foundation to build on. So Phase 1 is complete.

WK2005.jpgIn the last 6 months Notis and Sanne learned a lot about themselves and how they need to train and with what kind of mentality. I, as coach, learned a lot about these two athletes. With a very good logged 6 months which made me do a lot of analyzing of all the gathered data. So we learned, we discussed, we trained, we finetuned, we tested, we gave it all and now we are ready. We’ve done our first step, so now the only thing we have to do is keep walking.

So, what about Phase 2? Later on I will reveal some more about this, but I can see we’re definitly going for some records in the (near?) future. Notis and Sanne have loads of potential, each in their own discplines and way. And they are nowhere near their limits.

SanneNotisWater.jpgIt’s funny too see how 2 people can approach freediving in such a different way. When we’re together it’s just loads of fun, talking about everything and nothing, but when it’s time for training you can feel the concentration. Each athlete going for their own goals in the training session, slowly working to the seaon goal and working further to the end goal… Are there end goals? Well, let’s just call them like that for now. For the project we’re doing now we have some clear defined end goals. When it’s done, we start another marathon.
